Teacher of the Karelia Branch of RANEPA Takes Part in the All-Russian Online Conference

On 27-29 May, 2020, the Second all-Russian conference “Pedagogical discourse: the quality of a teacher’s speech” was held.  This year it was held online. It was organized by the Institute of Foreign Languages of Moscow City University. It was attended by about 696 teachers of universities and secondary schools of Russia. 

The scope of the conference included the following topics:

1. Pedagogical discourse as an object of interdisciplinary consideration.

2. The rhetorical aspect of pedagogical discourse.

3. Professional self-presentation of a teacher. Communicative style in business pedagogical communication.

4. Features of professional pedagogical communication.

5. The quality of the teacher’s speech as a speech partner in cross-cultural interaction with a colleague.

6. Issues of improving the quality of speech of a foreign language teacher, etc.

The plenary session featured 13 video presentations by the leading scientists and specialists in the field of pedagogical discourse: Prof Dr Vladimir I. Anushkin, the Chairman of the Russian Association of Researchers, Teachers and Rhetoric Teachers; Prof Dr Svetlana B. Koroleva, Professor of Novgorod State Linguistic University;  Prof Dr Elena G. Tareva, Professor of Moscow City University, and others.

The conference included five sessions. Dr Ekaterina Vasilyeva, PhD (Philology), the Head of the Chair of Foreign Languages of the Karelia branch of RANEPA, made a report on the topic “The organization and conduct of foreign language classes with native speakers.”

Three workshops were held for the participants of the scientific event: “Correctness and political correctness in English lessons,” “Raising a smile in the voice: priorities of phonetic training of a modern English teacher,” and “A foreign language teacher in the XXI century: express yourself through digits.”

The all-Russian online conference dedicated to the problems of pedagogical discourse as institutional and person-oriented one was held at a high scientific and technical level. This bright scientific event expanded the boundaries of improving the professional skills of foreign language teachers.
