The main directions of the international activities

The main directions of the international activities of the Karelian branch of RANEPA are: 

 -   information services and support of the project activities in the sphere of international cooperation;

 -   support and development of contacts and cooperation with foreign universities and the universities of the Russian Federation;

-   international contacts with the bodies of state and municipal administration.

 

The development of the sphere of international cooperation is aimed at the rational use of the resource potential of the Karelian branch of RANEPA, at the mobilization of budget and non-budget investments in order to perfect the educational process and to strengthen scientific-methodological resources, facilities and equipment of the branch.  Thesearethemaintasks:

-   organization of events (lectures, meetings, presentations) with foreign specialists in the spheres of administration, economics and law;

-  strengthening international ties with foreign universities in order to enlarge the qualification of the teaching staff, to exchange experience and to initiate educational projects;

 -  preparing, implementation and support of international projects;

-   participation in international seminars and conferences promoting open experience and knowledge exchange in the spheres of humanitarian, social, finance-economical, and political sciences between Russian and foreign educational establishments;

-   development of the system of international contacts by the interaction with national-cultural public organizations of Petrozavodsk and the Republic of Karelia.

 

The examples of implemented projects:

- visit of Ms. Temmes, the General Director of the Institute of State Administration of Finland; signing up the agreement on cooperation between the Karelian branch of RANEPA and the Institute of State Administration of Finland (2011);

- preparation of the pilot project «НотаБЕНе» conducted within the grant of the Council of Ministers of Northern Countries.  The project was aimed at the increase of the competency of the specialists of municipal bodies in the sphere of international and cross-border cooperation in the North-West of the Russian Federation.  The gained experience on the work of Northern-European and Baltic partners was to be used in the work of Russian employees (2011); 

- a public lecture by Mr. Degutis, the Consul General of the Consulate General of the Republic of Lithuania on the topic “Lithuania and Russia – the last twenty years’ relations” (March 2011);

- a public lecture by Mr. Johnson, the Consul on the Issues of Press and Culture of the Consulate General of the USA in Saint Petersburg on the topic “Relations between Russia and the USA in numbers, facts and events” (April 2011);

- international conference “Through new ideas towards gender equality.”  The organizers of the conference were the autonomous non-profit organization “Assistance” (with the support of the Information Bureau of the Council of Ministers of Northern Countries in Saint Petersburg), the Administration of Petrozavodsk Town District and the Karelian branch of RANEPA (March 2011);

- international seminar “Reformed municipalities as a part of civil society” with the support of the Association “Union of Municipal Bodies” in Sortavala, Karelia.  The seminar was conducted within the agreement on cooperation between the Karelian branch of RANEPA and the Institute of State Administration of Finland “HAUS” (August 2011);

- international seminar “Experience of volunteerism in the Russian Federation and Finland.”  The initiators of the seminar were the Karelian branch of RANEPA and “Youth Agency of Finland” (September 2011);

- Days of Finland in the Karelian branch of RANEPA included the following events: a public lecture given by Ms. Heikkinen, the Consul of Petrozavodsk Department of the Consulate General of Finland; public lectures given by the representatives of international partners of the Karelian branch of RANEPA: the Institute of State Administration of Finland “HAUS,” “Youth Agency of Finland,” the University of Applied Sciences of Northern Karelia (Joensuu, Finland), a public lecture given by Prof. Dr. Kilin representing Petrozavodsk State University; speeches by the members of “Ingermanland Union of the Finns of Karelia,”  and of “Karelia – Finland - Friendship Society,” and a workshop on the Finnish language (November 2011);

- «European week of local democracy», in the frameworks of which a number of theoretical and practical events took place: public lectures; practical classes in the Legislative Assembly of the Republic of Karelia with the aim of getting acquainted with the work of the Republican Parliament and its interaction with local communities; a book exhibition “Local communities: time of change;” round table on the topic “The development of local self-government in the countries of the European North and in the North-West of the Russian Federation” (October 2011);

- participation in the international seminar on experience exchange “Healthy way of life is the choice of the youth” in Finland (November 2011).
